Daisy - Bella/Silas 2015

Your Photo Contest reminded me to email you …  I wanted to tell you we … SHE … is doing so well.

Such an AWESOME puppy!! We still have the biting from time to time but her sweetness is 99% of the time there. I took her to the vet on Saturday. There were probably 20 nervous, lunging dogs in the waiting room. Not our little angel. She just sat down next to Spike watching all the other crazy dogs as if she was a human. Tons of people came over to love on her because she was so good and calm and commanded all the attention over all the other canines.

However the BIGGEST compliment came from the vet … Dr. Millis … he started his practice about 45 years ago so I’d imagine he’s seen about 100 million animals [he now has 11 vets that work w/ him in his practice] but we got lucky and got Dr. M himself [it’s random unless you ask for a certain vet which of course you would if our animal was sick or something but just for shots/nail clipping we took the random vet.] Anyway, low and behold Dr. M called for Daisy and in she trotted. Dr. M himself said he could not believe what a beautiful and calm dog she is. He raved about her sweet disposition and good nature the whole time. He said most pups her age are trying to bound off the table but not Daisy … she just laid there and let him love on her, give her her shots, flip her all around to trim her nails etc. I was so proud of her and wanted to share the good news with you too.

Really she’s like that about everything. We try to expose her to everything possible. She’s extremely agile and can climb on all kinds of surfaces, textures, inclines etc. She’s like a little mountain goat with some cat-like tendencies the way she “pounces” on stuff. This weekend she got to explore our yard off leash and she stayed right by us the whole time. She LOVED it. She’s so inquisitive of everything. The most excited she gets about anything is DIGGING!! Since we live in the woods we let her dig in the woods but the funny thing is Spike got a shovel out this weekend to dig a hole. She went crazy dancing and bounding around him while he dug. It was so cute how excited she got about her human doing her FAVORITE activity.

Since she still was not loving her food, we broke down and added a spoonful of yogurt to her food and now she LOVES her food. SO … UGH … here we go down the path of spoiled puppy … but, “hey, she’s worth it!!” I asked the vet if she was growing properly [because Todd and I thought she was looking a bit lean] and he said she is just perfect. She actually gained 8.5 pounds in a little over 3 weeks!! She now weighs 18.5#. I think what happened is she’s growing longer than she is tall currently so she’s “stretched” out which made her appear leaner than previously.

She’s had very few accidents since we brought her home and seems very smart. I’m really excited about her training. We wheeled her around in the cart at the pet store after we went to the vet to buy a few supplies and the resident trainer came up to us. She was also amazed at both how calm she was along with how responsive she was. She was also very complimentary of her just like Dr. Millis.

She does not have any fears yet with one exception … she did not like getting ON the elevator at the hotel. That freaked her out a bit so we had to carry her on. We will need to work on that because we plan to take her to many hotels in her lifetime and it’s fine when you can just pick her up but when she’s bigger she’s going to have to jump on on her own. She was fine once she was on board and fine getting off.

So that’s our sweet Daisy update as she’s currently is rolling around under my desk at work and playing with her toys. She’s got 3 humans wrapped around her rather large paws … life is good for Daisy Kohlbecker and her people!!!

(A couple cute pics from our lunch outside today (above and below) at my office w/ my co-workers. Her favorite thing to do is just sit in the Monkey Grass, but chewing on sticks is good too. She’s wins everyone over the moment they lay eyes on her.)
