This is a game. . . see if you can tell which litters are which! :) Actually, I just spent some time snapping images of these sleeping puppies after we played outside and had breakfast this morning. Ina and Nadia pups are out of the turf and going in and out of puppy doors. Bella's will be joining them any day!
It's been a big week in the puppy barn! Puppy areas were enlarged, adding a space for hard surfaces and a mat, to practice potty training (in chips and outside, keeping inside surfaces clean) and both Nadia and Ina litters are doing marvelously. (Bella pups aren't quite old enough yet.) We've added dens with mats inside (for sleeping and sometimes playing), and we've opened up the puppy doors so that pups can go outside on the turf and run and play on nice days. We've also added our half-door, which is a big help to puppy handlers as we go in and out of pens. . . nice!
We've started trips to the backyard, where puppies have met the real grass, sand, pinecones, and Pappa SILAS! The pups have also been introduced to loads of grandchildren who are playing in the sandpile and on the slide and swings - AND the trampoline. One puppy was actually checking out the jumping grandchildren today. lol :)
Veterinary checks will begin this week for those who are 5 1/2 weeks old. Our puppies have two well-puppy checks (one at 5 1/2 weeks, the final at 7 1/2 weeks of age) before they go home. Puppies are also initialed to their first baths at 5 1/2 weeks and formal individual photographs.
Puppies will be transitioning to 3XD solid food feedings while they are being weaned from their mammas. We target six weeks of age for weaning, giving mothers time to dry off while we (handlers) work exclusively with the puppies. Mothers and other Goldens are then reintroduced during the final week as puppies have grown more independent and are getting ready to go home!
We're busy working with redirecting mouthing and lovingly teaching little puppies their role in our pack - that we (handlers) are the Big Cheese. Our "settle" hold is being used routinely now, and puppies are responding well. :)
So much going on here at Snitker Goldens! Thank you to all new puppy owners who are being patient while we work with your little ones. We're doing our best to keep you updated as we work with your puppies!
"Til next time! ~ rhonda
