Meet the Artists
RHONDA SNITKER
For almost thirty years, Rhonda has been creating art as a means of self-expression. Portraits, studio backgrounds, murals, sculptures – it’s all been part of communicating in and through the world around her.
In December, 2015, Rhonda earned her Masters of Arts in Art Therapy (MAAT) from Saint Mary of the Woods College, Indiana. She completed her internship at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Using art as a vessel for healing is something she experienced in her own life, and sharing this with others comes quite naturally to her.
Though Rhonda’s concentration is in drawing and painting, she enjoys sculpture, pottery, found-object art, and creating from natural elements.
STEPHANIE KELLEY
The Furry Artist
As self-taught fiber artist, Stephanie has been working with wool and acrylic fibers for years and enjoys every stolen, creative moment in her life as a mother. Felting is an ancient craft that predates traditional woven textiles and can be done by wetting wool to agitate the fibers or by needle. True to her nature (one that demands she save every scrap because it might have a purpose down the road!), it went against the grain to throw away the dog fur that seemed to have every characteristic of a beautiful, amazing-to-work-with fiber. Why not try something outside of the box? Why not try something waaaay outside of the box?
Felting with fur is similar to felting with wool or acrylic fibers, but in many ways, it's a medium all its own. Fur has a movement that is unique to dogs, kind of like the dogs themselves! It only felts so much inside the lines before it simply does its own thing. Stephanie loves working with the fibers and capturing the personalities behind each of the dogs featured in her artwork. "It's not about coloring inside the lines with this type of felting - it's finding where it moves and then following it!"
