Bringing our home to our puppies is a revolutionary idea, one that we are seeing other breeders adopt from us here at Snitker Goldens. After years of testing new ideas and environments, in 2010, we designed and built our exclusive barn to meet our needs as well as the needs of our puppies and dogs. We truly wanted our environment to mimic our home. We then enlarged our building in 2015 to accomodate more work, play, and living space to encourage even further developmental opportunities for our pups, as well as make living and working areas more functional.
With this in mind, our custom designed facilities feature: a climate-controlled environment, sleeping quarters and bathroom/shower facilities for us (as the handlers), a living room complete with TV, stereo, rugs, comfortable seating, vacuum, and other such tempting house-things for puppies. And uniquely designed by us, whelping areas that transition through five different stages to support the developmental stages of our puppies.
Our facilities also include overnight areas for our adults and next generation young adults, along with a full service training room. Additionally, the washroom now includes a complete grooming station with hydraulic lifts for bathing and clipping, as well as a washer/dryer for laundry needs.

Puppy Barn

Our Puppy Barn has several features - its very own living room, kitchenette, bedroom area, and whelping pens. Each area was created to specifically prepare our puppies for their forever homes.
Our climate-controlled environment is equipped with couches, television, radio, rugs, pillows, a full sized bed, and even a kitchenette - we target specific training goals and benchmarks for our growing puppies. There is no shortage of socialization and new experiences, the best part being this environment is controlled, so we choose the experience and the imprint - making us far more effective in our training.
We also have four custom whelping/grower areas each designed and built with the ability to adapt during five different puppy stages. These areas were created with birth, cleanliness, health, and enlargement capabilities for growing puppies in mind. We provide clean and warm birthing areas for our newborn puppies, perfect potty training environments for our older puppies, and many other great features. Mothers are comfortable, too, for each female has the opportunity to move about in her own space while nestling puppies sleep. She can stretch out her legs, chew on a bone, or just relax between nursing puppies.
Each whelping/grower area has a puppy door that takes them outside on a larger turf area for play. Pups learn to use the dog door, go potty outside, and have more than double their play space. For individual litter work, we utilize our Training Room facilities and also transport them to other areas on the acreage, allowing them real-life experiences in new and natural outdoor environments.

Dog Barn

With the addition of our Dog and Teen Barns, we now have an even greater functional space. Though our space is larger, our pack number is remaining the same. Adults have their own overnight areas as do our upcoming breeders, our "teens", as we call them.
The photo to the left shows the Dog Barn just before our adult breeders moved in. Each has a spacious overnight area with a bed for sleeping. The higher ceilings, more durable no-skid floor surfaces (for ease in cleaning), better lighting and air movement, and of course, just every day, all year long - comfortable heated and/or air-conditioned space, has been a wonderful upgrade. Not shown in the photo yet are the new dog doors going in for easy, outdoor access, and our elevated dog beds used for our Goldens' comfort.
We can train all year long without the inconvenience of poor weather, clean in a matter of minutes, and provide a great overnight area for our working adults.

Our new Training Facilities previously housed our adult and teen dogs. What an incredible space we have to work, accommodating all stages of Golden life.
The photo on the right was taken just after we finished moving the adults to our new Dog Barn. There is still some work to do (trimming out doors, adding our air conditioning unit, etc.), but we now have a puppy pool set up with balls (sometimes water for swim practice), a puppy gym, inclines and steps, tunnels, amidst a myriad of other things.
The floor is also the same durable, no-skid surface as the rest of our Barns, making this space unbeatable for the skills we work on with our pups.
The Training Room allows us to control the environment in which our puppies learn - we can set the tone for play, work, or exercise. Not only is this an efficient use of space for puppy training, but it also allows us to provide training work for our adults and our teens when the weather outside is too wet or cold.

Our Outdoor Runs boast over 30,000+ square feet. We're currently completing constructing on an "adult" run, a "teenager" run, as well as a "puppy" run. It's important for the safety of our breeding hopefuls to provide an area where they can romp and play without fear of injuring those growing joints (playing with adults can result in injuries simply due to the larger size and weight of full-grown males and females).
The completed Outdoor Runs will furnish play gyms uniquely designed for each age group along with sandy areas for constructive digging, our original pool for swimming and cooling down in the summer, as well as areas of rest.
We desire to give our Goldens plenty of opportunity to enjoy their environment, offering them ways in which to burn energy and stimulate their senses during play. We hope to provide updated photos soon.

Based on the recommendations from our state inspector and local veterinarian, bio-security reasons, and the safety of our Golden Retrievers, we do not allow visitors inside our facilities or our outdoor runs. We strive, however, to be transparent in our practices and our daily routines, providing you with an honest, open look at the day-to-day lives our Goldens lead.
We do welcome visits from our adopting families, hosting meet-and-greets with our adult breeders in the front yard and/or in our home, giving you a chance to meet them and us. We're happy to answer your questions and have the opportunity to hear what your thoughts are for your future Golden puppy. These visits are scheduled outside of breeding and whelping seasons to allow our females the rest and quiet necessary to promote healthy mothers and puppies.
We appreciate your understanding in protecting the health of the puppies and ultimately, the health of your future Snitker Golden.
